Thanksgiving Feast

Though Canadian Thanksgiving is well in the past, we decided to celebrate the traditional North American holiday with enthusiasm. Last Saturday we gathered around the table with a total of 10 people to share in some good ol' home-cookin! Seeing as I have never actually made turkey, stuffing or gravy before, it was quite the learning experience. Debs (our flatmate) and I had a LOT of fun preparing food and decorating the table to look, feel and smell like home. Debs has a natural talent for hosting parties and all of the related domestic chores, and it turned out great! This is Debs setting the table and getting everything ready for our guests (while the boys stare at the t.v in the lounge).

Debs really wanted to establish a strong Canadian theme, and she did it brilliantly! There were a total of six Canadians and one American and three Kiwi's at the table, so we were definately the dominant group. This is the finished table and the adorable place-settings, complete with a delicious pre-dinner moose cookie (or 'biscuit' as Kiwi's call them)!!

The turkey and all of the food turned out great, and we had a wonderful feast. It was really great to think fondly of home, as we had missed out on the traditional family meal at Oma's this year! That Saturday also happened to be "Guy Fox Day" which is a British/Kiwi Holiday involving fireworks (and if you ask me, a very strange reason to celebrate). So, being on a higher hill, we simply walked out past the backyard into the cemetary and watched the sky glow with colour from the distant fireworks. All in all, it was a really fun night! Here's a few pictures of the gang at the table and relaxing in the lounge (Watching some really funny British television show!).

That's all for now!
